Week Roku... Food and Fish

This week we stayed close to the base.  We tried a few different treats and even bought some fish.  We picked up a FREE aquarium at the Airman's Attic a few weeks ago.  Mike has been so excited to get fish.  We went Saturday to find some.  We were trying to find a tropical fish store that was supposed to have a ton of fish, but we couldn't find it.  So we decided to just go to the "Happy" Honda and get some fish there.  Anyway, here are a few pictures from our week.

In the LDS Church, we have what is called Family Home Evening.  It's every Monday night and that the whole family gets together for a spiritual lesson, activity and a treat.  We have been trying a new Japanese treat every week for FHE.  Here are our treats for this week.  Mike picked them out.  The one on the right was some kind of burnt waffle.  The one on the left was chocolate covered marshmallows, or so we thought.  We soon discovered it didn't taste at all like chocolate.

Mike took the package into work the next day to ask his assistant what it was.  She laughed at him and told him it was sweet bean paste.  Apparently they put it in a lot of stuff.

We went to a department store called Seiyu.  It is actually affiliated with Wal-Mart.  Yes, Wal-Mart even has its grubby little hands in Japan. =)  This was an Aflac stand.  The duck apparently had a sign on him that said don't sit on him because the lady at the desk started waving her arms when I tried to get a picture with Annabelle sitting on the goose.

In the first floor of the Seiyu they have a grocery store with ready to eat food.  We picked up a few things to eat for dinner.  This was supposed to be Annabelle's, but she wouldn't even try it.  It was some kind of fried potato.  It was really good!

Mike had sushi for the first time since we've been in Japan.  Probably not the best, but it was pretty cheap.

I opted for the fish free sushi.  I have to say, I enjoyed Annabelle's fried potato most.

After we got back from Seiyu, Annabelle was wide awake for a while, even though it was after her bedtime.  She found the plant pot to play in.

Saturday we ventured out around the base to buy fish for Mike's aquarium.  While we were looking for the fish store we found a few interesting sites.  The first one was this car wash.  I'm sure I looked like a crazy tourist taking a picture of it.  Instead of driving your car through the car wash the washer moves over your car. 

We saw a couple of houses like this on our route. This is one of the bigger houses we have seen in Japan.

We couldn't find the fish store so we decided to just go to "Happy" Honda.  We got our Drink of the Week there:  Strawberry Milk.  Again, something that Mike says reminds him of Chile.  It would be alright frozen, like a milkshake. =)

We just bought a few cheap fish to start off.  We don't want to kill super expensive ones right off!  We don't know what types of fish we bought (we bought them purely on looks), but we got 6 little fish that reflect light and look like they glow.  We also got one orange and one yellow fish.  Mike jokingly asked if I wanted the teeth model in there.  I told him that that was the only thing that made the aquarium worth having. =)

Later that evening, we went to Chateraise, a pastry and ice cream shop just outside the gate.  We picked up a few treats.  The first one was Mike's pancake sandwich which was filled with cream and... you might have guessed it... BEAN PASTE!  No more picking out treats for Mike. 

They have a lot of these already-made ice cream cone in a package.  The ice cream was not that good... kind of fake tasting.  Of course Annabelle loved it.

This was the best of what we tried that night... fudge bar with chocolate filling.  Now this is what I'm talking about, Japan!  Yum!
